I appreciate your e-mail. But this has nothing to do with cutting hair or how many bad albums they have made. I have supported them even through black, load and re-load. Hell I had a metclub membership until 1998. This is about how Metallica used to stand up for the low man. How they encouraged tape trading and treated their fans like the gold that they were. Without the fans metallica is nothing. And they have forgotten all that they used to preach, and said ohhhh by the way, FUCK YOU. Metallica is nothing more than a puppet used by the record companies to attempt to control the distribution of music over the internet. Listen man. I see that the responses that you posted in favor of Metallica were mostly from uneducated morons who cannot spell or even use a computer correctly. I also noticed that in each and every e-mail posted, the author called you something like a dickless shit, son of a bitch, etc. I am not going to do that. That will not prove anything. I am just going to tell you that Metallica IS everything that I want from Music. It's easy to criticize Metallica for their 'suit against Napster. However, I think it is important to look at both sides. I see your point when you say that Metallica has "sold out". But they have worked very hard for nearly 20 years to control their Master recordings. They never needed to worry about people taking their shit for free, and all of a sudden, they are shit out of luck. Who have they sold out to? They don't owe me anything, nor do they owe anyone else. They have always been good to their fans. I can't count how many times I have seen them, and they have given an ass-kikin show. Not to mention the free concerts that I have attended. My friend and i were just surfing around and came across ur site. I am not a huge metallica fan, never was never will be so when i heard about them bitching and moaning about napster and all this crap i said fuck them, they just killed themselves. Just thought I'd drop a line to give you some kudos on your website. I actually started reading the "Bad Posts" before the movie even loaded (slow connection), so I was kinda bewildered when the music came on. All I can say, man, is that your movie's really, really sad. In a good way. It's sort of like watching a movie about an ex-girlfriend with whom you're still infatuated but can't believe who she's going out with or what she's doing since you broke up. There's anger, frustration, nostalgia, and sort of a bleak loneliness that comes from the end of something, and all of that is conjured up in the simple lines of text, flying pictures, and music that you used. I have a friend who is the bigest Metallica-head I have ever met. Had all their CD's, worshipped their music, said that they were the band that really got him started on the heavy music. He grew up in Sacramento, CA and went to a bunch of their shows back in the day. He was dissappointed when "Load" came out and they cut their hair, but not grief-stricken. He figured, "everyone changes and grows up, that's OK, I've still got my memories of the old Metallica." Then Lars pulled his shit with Napster. I went to my friend's house one day to find ALL of his Metallica CD's broken into small fragments and glued, reflective-surface out, to painted pieces of cardboard. These CD's were some of his favorite possessions. He's known for making art out of junk - gatorade bottles, straws, whatever's at hand. Apparently he was still so attached to the CD's that he couldn't throw them out, but he couldn't listen to them again either. Personally, I was never huge into Metallica, at least relative to their "super-fans". I dug 'em, but as one digs an excellent band, not as the be-all and end-all; gods among artists. I actually got into them via the "Black" album. Yeah, heresy, I know, but having gone back and purchased the old stuff, you'll find I don't listen to anything after "...And Justice" anymore. Their early stuff is, for lack of a better word, amazing. Unfortunately, after this Napster debacle, I don't listen to 'em at all anymore, but i was never so attached to Metallica that I felt as betrayed as my friend (and shit, i paid $20 a pop for my CD's, they're an investment). But i'm a NIN fan, obsessively so, to the level of my friend's love for Metallica, and I can only imagine what I would feel like if Trent had done what Lars did. There'd probably be some CD breakin' goin' on. You captured that sense of betrayal and loss on your website, my friend. Thats the metallica i love. I loved their albums from kill em all through reload and garage inc. When they up out an album of cover songs, i got a little weary of them. The S&M album released and i loved it. (i love music of all sorts even calssical). Heres why i hate metallica now, Back then they were all about music, now they are all about money. Poeple are right, as you get older you do change and/or sell out. On the other hand, most peopole usually know when to quit. Metallica doesnt. When they first started out, they used illegal copies of tapes and bootlegs to become known. Now they are throwing that same idea into every one of their fan's faces. Now they they are multi-billionares they just want more and more money and dont give a shit about their fans. Its true what they say, money is the source of all evil. Dude, first of all, your site serves a good purpose. Providing a forum for disgruntled fans (or x-fans) that the band is likely to see. When I was first turned on to Metallica it was 1985, I was 15, and it was an absolutely fuckin' incredible summer. Listening to Celtic Frost, Dr. Know, Slayer, Megadeath & especially Metallica! I saw them open for Ozzy in 1987 and they fuckin rocked! They were everything that I felt at that time. THEY FUCKIN RULED! If someone was to play their music from that era and then play their music now they would be absolutely nuts to think that the band has not sold out. Their music now fuckin blows! Great Site! Sadly, I don't think the "Bad Reaction" people quite understand this site very well. It's not about "cutting hair" or settling for subpar music or whatever. It's about the sad fact that everything Metallica once stood for doesn't seem to matter to them anymore. I distinctly remember Lars in an interview around 1987 saying "it's not about how big the house is, is the car a five speed, or shit like that. If you want money, just go out and fucking steal it." Sounds to me that the Master of Puppets have become the puppets themselves. And that's fine. Anthrax had a quote in the liner notes for the song "Dallabnikcufecin" on Attack of the Killer B's: "...and if those kind of bands want to sound like that that's fine. They can suck if they want to." I think that applies here very well. I, too, used to be a huge Metallica fan back in the day, but they haven't released an album since 1989. Wonder what ever happened to them... As far as "real fans" go, your "diehard" Metallica fan in 2000 is about one tenth as hardcore as a 1987 Metallifuk. You see, they were never ridiculed or laughed at for wearing a Metallica T-shirt in high school. They never had problems trying to find the CDs. If you were a Metallica fan back then, you were probably listening to Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth as well, not Britanny Spears, Blink 182, and Garth Brooks. But at any rate, cut the black album fans a little slack. This is a crowd that still thinks Marilyn Manson is really into devil worship (obviously people who've never listened to a single tune from Venom, but I'll save that one for the "Marilyn Manson Sucks" website).

I want to start off by saying I never liked Metallica. In the "...Lightning" days, in the "Garage" days, the "Black" days, or even yesterday for that matter. That simple fact led me to this website. Metallica has and always will suck... however!!... what Lars is pursuing is wrong. There's no other way around it. His exploitation of himself and his band by giving us the IMPRESSION that they actually have views NOT given to them by their management is, at BEST, a way to revive themselves from their last 4 musical failures. But when they tasted the money they forgot what it felt like to be doing it for fun. Now they have the resources to make themselves look good. Whether it's for good or bad intentions, publicity is publicity. Metallica's attack on the Napster site/community is: 1) a feeble publicity stunt which is, mind you, poorly written and rehearsed, JUST LIKE THEIR MUSIC!!, 2) a cry for a new generation of fans because they realized they've lost the old ones by shitting on C.D's and selling them as "music", 3) a way to make the money they "supposedly" lost in all of the metallica downloads. One of your musically declined "fans" mentioned listening to Phish as repentance for dissing Metallica. Is it irony that he chose a band that provides "recording centers" at their concerts just so people can record tapes and share them with all of their nitrous-huffing hippie buddies that couldn't get off work to go to the show?! In disagreeing with you, he acknowledged the fact that this recording and sharing of music is an age old tradition. There are many things to be said about them, but nothing that hasn't been said before. I too have been listening to mettalica for 14 years. I was a fan of the old school jams. When they cut thier hair I forgave them since I too cut my mane off . I was bewildered when they did a remake of Segers turn the page which completely sucks and is an obvious sign of thier lack of energy and creativity. Segars version isnt even worth a damn. After I heard the ruling today from the dike judge in SF I blew a complete gasket , I have never been so pissed off in my life ,Thank YOU for creating this site and giving me a forum to vent my anger. I will do everything in my power to spread the word and bring mettalica down. They deserve to be banished from every radio station and music store worldwide I hope they dont ever sell one more record. Music fans and artists have been getting fucked by music corporations for far too long and now mettalica has TOTALLY sold out and turned against their own fans for the almighty dollar. My hatred for their capitalistic greedy sell out, lame ways so outweighs any love I once had for their music is astonishing. Please put together a list of ALL parties involved in putting napster out of busisness so it can be downloaded by every music loving netizen so we can enforce a full economic boycott of them all and they will go out of business.

Hey, I too have been a Metallica fan since the early days, and I find it ironic. These putrid little shits that send you hate mail have probably been Metallica fans since way back in the Black days, lol!!!!!! Also, I find it funny that in both messages there were several words misspelled ( Message to morons, spell check works!!!!!!!) I despise the band "Formerly Known As Metallica". One more thing , that has pissed me off about this band, is that they refuse to play my favorite (Ex) song ....... "Dyer's Eve" , I guess they forget a lot of things.......
